When Its Time to Buy a Baby Crib

The baby will be coming soon, and if you haven’t done so, it’s time to choose a crib. Parents spend a lot of time finding just the right crib, and rightfully so. Baby crib recalls to fix defective parts or designs where babies and toddlers have become stuck between slats or the mattress and the side of the crib are common.

So what do you look for in a safe, well constructed crib? First, check the reviews. Shopping online or go to this your baby crib site, you will always find a long page of reviews to look at, usually written by parents.

Any crib consistently being marked down for poor materials or loose assembly, mark it off your list. Look for cribs which are solid, include a good mattress, and go together easily. Although a drop side, or double drop side crib is convenient, weigh this choice carefully. Drop sides have earned attention for causing a few injuries.

Check that the manufacturer is approved by the JPMA (‘Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association’) then decide on your style.

Sleigh baby crib sets are an example of a sturdy design reserved for a company’s higher end cribs fitting into a more traditional baby room. This crib style is made by several reputable companies, including Pottery Barn. This style is nice because there are no posts for the baby’s clothing to get caught on.

A modern baby crib should already adhere to up to date safety standards, but it is good to know them yourself. A couple of simple safety reminders:

-Remove and throw away all plastic wrapping, especially from the baby crib mattress.

-Use baby crib bedding and bumpers which is tight and secure, or in the case of bumpers, ties or snaps on the outside of the crib.

Always think safety first when shopping for a baby crib.
