Securing your lathe with caution
Lathe is usually made of two bars in a single casting, planed quite flat on the top and edges. You use a lathe chuck to secure the object. In some of the small lathes, there is no crank axle, but the flywheel is hung upon a short bolt or stud, which screws into the left standard. The crank is then merely a pin fixed into one of the spokes of the wheel. If Lathe is shaking or vibrating, lower the speed. If the work piece vibrates, always stop the machine to check the reason so you do not ruin your project. Exercise extra caution when using stock with cracks, splits, checks, bark pockets, knots, irregular shapes, or protuberances. Lathe is the heart of the wood turner’s haven and it is amazing what can be produced with such a simple-concept machine. Wood lathes come in all shapes, sizes and price ranges and you can spend a large fortune on the top of the line model
