Process Of Artificial Turf Maintenance

Left untreated, artificial turf and synthetic grass surfaces alike will eventually become overrun by weeds. It’s inevitable because the weed seeds are going to be carried onto the artificial turf and if that happens then it is a short step to becoming lodged deep into the grass fibers themselves.

Part of the process of artificial turf maintenance is to treat the grass surface with a herbicide. The growth of mold and fungus are just as likely as the growth of bacteria and if you want to be sure that it will not become a problem in your artificial grass you will have to spray the surface if you find that it is becoming overly dirty or slimy.

The need to do this can be avoided, though, and where possible you don’t want to be spraying chemicals into your artificial turf. After all, this is presumably one of the reasons that you have replaced the natural grass with an artificial turf surface.

The way you can avoid having to use a herbicide on your artificial turf is to regularly carry out maintenance jobs such as sweeping and grooming. Sweeping will involve the use of a hard bristled brush that must be swept over the turf to remove any foreign objects such as dirt, dust, leaves or other organic matter. The blades of the grass have to be lifted and the rubber infill can be redistributed so that the field is returned to its original condition.

This highlights something that perhaps some people weren’t aware of. Artificial turf is not a maintenance free product. It reduces and even eliminates some tasks but there are other jobs to perform, new gardening jobs that are specific to working on the special artificial surface.

It does make the maintenance tasks a lot easier. Tasks that used to take hours to perform and had to be repeated week after week are now shrunken down to a significantly smaller timeframe.
