History of Medical Assistants
Look for medical assistant jobs now? Well, it may help you to know a little bit about the history of the profession. Medical assistants used to be a loosely defined term basically describing doctors’ offices support staff. In 1956, the American Association of Medical Assistants was founded. This group was able to organize medical assistants, give them a group identity, and more specifically define the job description. Now, medical assistants do have a specifically detailed job description in most cases. They also help with certification requirements for medical assistant school.
However, in some offices (especially smaller ones), the phrase is used more loosely. So if you are looking for a medial assistant employment, it is important to look closely at the company you are applying to in order to find out exactly what a medical assistant means to them. A large corporation will have on site accountants working for them, where a small business may have a office manager that handles the bookkeeping.
