Bamboo Club Furniture
Bamboo is well known for growing at a faster rate than any other plant on Earth. As such, it is a great source of income for the Bamboo Club in Salima District in Malawi. As you travel up the M14, you will see various members of the Bamboo Club selling sofas, love seats, chairs, coffee tables, dining room tables, baskets; you name it, they can make it from bamboo!
Bamboo has a look almost like wicker when used in making furniture. I believe bamboo is more durable then wicker. Many of the products in Malawi are left outside and have to endure the weather – hot, cold, or wet – and still, the products remain durable. Aside from home furnishings, you’ll often residences and businesses decorating with bamboo window blinds.
There are several other uses for bamboo. It’s edible, used in medicine, and is utilized in paper-making. For the Bamboo Clubs in Malawi, however, the big bamboo bucks are in their unique and beautiful furniture.
